Self-love thinking and self-care practices are some of the best gifts you can give yourself during uncertain times. It’s easy to get caught up in the fear, the crazy work schedules, the kids, that we lose sight of our feelings and goals.
Here are 8 self-care tips for living your best pandemic life:
- Give up expectations: You don’t have to have the perfect dinner or family. Instead of spending time creating picture-perfect ideas in your head, set intentions for how you want to feel and work towards those!
- Be vulnerable: Just because ‘safe at home’ has lasted longer than we ever thought possible doesn’t mean you have to hide your feelings. Sometimes talking to someone—a loved one, a coach or a health-care professional can make all the difference. It’s okay to have “unattractive” or “unwanted” feelings. You don’t have to have it all together. Positive Polly doesn’t have to come out to play errrrryday. Own your feelings, and be vulnerable enough to share the real you!
- Set limits: Don’t get so caught up in Schitt’s Creek or Hamilton that you forget about everything else. Prioritize your time so you can relax and enjoy the people you care about.
- Moderation: Try to maintain your regular eating and sleeping habits as much as possible—try not to overindulge (too much…)!
- Stay within budget: Finances can become a huge source of stress, especially when it feels like online shopping is the only thing to fill the time. Make yourself a budget and stay within it. If you don’t make a budget, it’s easy to go crazy with spending.
- We-time: Stay connected to your people. Send all the memes. FaceTime your sister. Forward the TikTok video you’ve rewatched 10 times. Host a virtual happy hour or game night. Just because you’re in hibernation doesn’t mean you have to be disconnected from your hearts.
- Me-time: Manage your wellness through exercise, meditation, or other activities. Having different outlets and stress-relieving opportunities can help you cope with seasonal stress.
- Help others: Wear a mask. Donate to an artist or other unemployed worker. Stand up (virtually counts too!) for a cause you believe in.
Remember that your feelings and actions are 100% in your control. You choose how you want to live, so choose with love xoxo Mo
